Spending where it counts.

Improve the basics.

1) Your bed: How much energy do you put into your sleeping pattern? If you were anything like me, hardly any energy at all. The moment I focussed on my mattress, my sheets, my blanket and pillow - sleep became something I looked forward to. How old is your mattress? How did you choose your mattress? If you weren’t involved in the process, you probably need to go shopping.

2) Your feet: Buying footwear for looks and not for comfort is a massive problem - so is the fact that running shoes have become the dominant style of shoe, a massive heel toe drop, shortening calf and hamstring range of motion, exacerbating the problem we already have from too much sitting time. Get the right socks for your shoes as well - and make sure you are replacing them when they start losing their functionality and shape. Oh, and the last thing we will focus on, make sure you give yourself the opportunity to walk outside barefoot, safely. It is important that you use your foot as God intended it to work, it will take some time to get used to but practice a mid-foot strike and feel yourself tense your glutes, lower abs and consider your entire bodies centre of gravity - all of this is often masked by our over cushioned and over supported shoes, allowing us to be lazy with everything else in our walk.

3) Whatever you use and operate on the daily: From cars to seats and kitchen appliances - buy quality and buy with the intention to hold onto them for a long period of time, making sure to maintain and care for things.

These decisions can be hard to make, but when you divide the cost by the amount of days your items will look after you, things will become a lot easier to digest. Scrutinise your purchases and maybe hold off of the wants for a while and, instead, focus on the needs you weren’t even considering.
