An unbroken string of life.
In the past I have enjoyed playing a game called Assassin’s Creed. In it, you are able to live through previous memories and experiences of your past ancestors thanks to a genetic research lab. I often think about my ancestors before me, what type of people they were, the lives they led, the stories and lessons they learnt - I wonder if they thought about what their decisions would lead to in the future, maybe even today, just as I think about their past.
These thoughts, inevitably, lead me to be blown away by the fact that each of us, all living life forms, string back to the first existence of life on planet Earth. For us to be born, people needed to have survived and bred successfully, and the same before them and so on - This means no broken chain of the passing of the flame of life from one generation to the next, since the beginning of life’s first spark.
All this makes me realise is that we often don’t appreciate life for what it is and the other living things outside of humanity that we have shared this planet and evolutionary journey with and rarely consider unless in the form of a pet. If it is machine made, marketed to you or feeds your ego - I believe it may be assisting to separate us from what is real, tangible and important.
Use your time with the flame wisely and don’t let the world distract you from what is real.
