On Success - Part 4

Part 4: Values are the true core of success

At the core of success - I always come back to an individuals values and intentions.

When chatting with a friend over coffee about people from high school who had made a lot of money it was a common trend that most hadn’t done anything positive, unique or beneficial to people or society. They had one intention and that was to make money. They did, but is that enough to be deemed successful? I come back to your values here - what are the underlying foundations to your existence? Big question, but what are the parts of you that can’t be taken away from you even if you were stripped of everything you own and do. If you don’t know them, it is time you do some deep self reflection - take the world away - the friends, the job - what is left? These values are what I am recognising to be the one defining factor from simply having monetary wealth and achieving true success.

The way you measure success is the way you program your thoughts and make your decisions. Some people lock themselves out of achieving success, window shoppers of life, watching the world pass them by as they sit in their circle of safety. Some people view success as the amount of positive impacts they have made on others - like teachers and social workers. You can have a different view and define whatever success is to you, but make sure it is yours. Were you programmed to want it? Are you truly interested in it? Ask yourself some questions before you dedicate your life to your vision of success.

Where I challenge people today is mainly on drive - nothing should ever be to just make money for the sake of making money - it may be easier said than done, but you will end up with a lasting, motivated and more fulfilling existence.
