On Accountability - Part 1

Part 1: Ownership

-We are all quick to own something when it goes right, but when things are going wrong we are much more hesitant. We avoid pain and look for pleasure. Dopamine can be amazing, but it can also be a masking agent that we use to avoid life’s harsh truths. If we only seek happiness, we miss out on the beauty that lies on the other side of pain, disappointment and embarrassment - the truth. We can often learn life’s most valuable lessons if we are willing to be uncomfortable and feel everything that we need to feel. If you want to own your life, you must first accept that no one else is ever at fault for your problems, just you.

If you take ownership of your actions, decisions, faults and mistakes then your brain cannot hide from the truth and then, something beautiful happens - everything becomes a lesson.

In my experience, taking ownership for everything I touch and have an impact on has led me to have harder conversations, more control over my emotions and the experience of deeper emotions. As a result, I have been exposed to new perspectives, the generation of new ideas, reassessment of plans and more analysis of future actions and reflection of past decisions .

If you own everything, the good and the bad, you are constantly exposed - but this is what it takes to lead an accountable life. So, get out there and paint yourself yellow in a sea of black and grey.
