Your timelines will be off - that’s okay.

Over 10 years ago, when I was still in high school, I thought that getting a job that paid 80k first year out of uni was as simple as studying a bachelors degree and that buying my dream house would only cost I million dollars and moving out with my lady would be achievable straight after university. Buying my dream car meant saving 15k.

The reality I experience looked and felt very different and, some goals of mine are still in the works after all these years. Getting an 80k a year job has taken me over a decade and, also took me 3 degrees to get. Buying my dream house now means needing to afford closer to 2million dollars. If I were to buy my high school dream cars in today’s market, they would cost me almost 5 times what they would have cost me only 5 years ago.

I mention all of this because our projections for the future are simply that, projections. They are not plans that have set timelines and designated achievement points because who we are, and what the world is doing is forever changing.

Go easy on yourself whilst on this journey - it takes effort, guts, energy and time to achieve your goals and you should celebrate the wins on the way there. Stay true to yourself and constantly give yourself a chance to taste your goals - things may change and what was once appealing may no longer be, and the same is true for the opposite - what was once avoided may now be desired.

Go with the flow of life - thing’s aren’t linear in this world, and nor should they be. It’s all a journey and we only have a one way ticket through it all - make sure you enjoy your time wisely.
