Goals and Dreams - Part 1

I love to ask people what their dreams are, but I always end up with a similar answer and it is something along the lines of ‘I don’t know’. So, I have to ask, do you remember the last time you let yourself dream? If so, how clear is that dream to you to this very day?

Once upon a time, you did dream - maybe back in childhood? When talking to people about them, sometimes I get an answer that can still be pursued, but 90% of the time the train passed long ago on what was once a a shining star in the eyes of a hopeful 6yr old.

At some point in life, I assume school, we begin to hide our true selves - sticking with the heard, safety in numbers. We begin to hide out of fear or protection of our identities due to fear of being judged - in doing so, we can lose a part of who we are rather than developing it.

The good news, we can still dream, we can even still dream big - what is that dream for you today?

To let you in on something that I have learnt over time.. asking someone what their dream is should come after knowing someone well enough to know if they who they truly are. Knowing who you are is a process - I will go into this in a future post.

Dreams: Sometimes a distant, hazy vision of an ideal life or scenario. Sometimes a solid image of what we want most for ourselves. Maybe we have lots of dreams, maybe we feel locked out of our dreams, maybe we don’t allow ourselves to dream because it hurts too much to know what could have been or maybe we can’t even visualise what’s possible because we don’t know what it would be like for everything to go right for once.

Some questions to reflect on. Do you formulate your dreams? Or do they find you? How will you know if a dream is worth pursuing or dedicating a lifetime to? Do you know how much you would be willing so sacrifice for something? How will you go from turning a dream into something tangible?
